I’ve made a free printable adjectives chart with the 11 types of adjectives used in English. Why? Because they’re simply useful.
What are adjectives?
Adjectives are words used to modify nouns. They describe a person or thing’s qualities, characteristics and attributes. The adjective should always agree with the noun it modifies in number and gender.
Adjectives can be placed after the noun they modify, before the noun they modify, or before and after the noun they modify.

Adjective Type | Definition | Words | Examples |

Possessive Adjective | It modifies a noun by telling whom it belongs to. | My, her, his, its, your, our, their | -> Your mother’s cooking is delicious! -> My apple is red and fresh. -> She was sad because she lost her job. |
Absolute Adjective | Absolute adjectives are adjectives that do not have any comparative or superlative forms. | Probably, unique, total, fatal, equal, final, finite | -> The Hope Diamond is unique in its beauty and size. -> The jury was unanimous in its decision. -> The disease was fatal for many people. |
Adjective of Quality | It shows the quality of a noun or a pronoun. | Hot, rich, wise, red, fresh, active, small | -> The wise man never talks about himself. -> A rich person can be rich in many ways: fame, money, possessions or knowledge. -> The new book on management is insightful. |
Adjective of Quantity | It shows the quantity of a noun. | Much, a lot, little, some, half, enough | -> I’ve got little time left today. -> I have a lot of money. -> There’s half a cake left if you want some. |
Adjective of Number | It expresses the numbers of the noun or a pronoun. | Two, fifth, any, many, each | -> There are five books lying on the table. -> It is my second attempt to pass the exam. -> Each of you have to work for betterment of society. |
Adjective of Shape | It represents the shape of the noun. | Round, steep, flat, curved, wide | -> I have a curved screen laptop. -> The mountain has a steep slope. -> The road was flat and straight. |
Adjective of Color | It shows the color of a noun or pronoun. | Orange, black, blue, gray | -> Do you like white rose? -> The green apples are delicious. -> The road was flat and straight. |
Adjective of Origin | It describes another person or thing in origin. | French, Greek, Spanish | -> I am learning French language. -> Tom has a Greek friend. -> My Spanish friend sent me a gift. |
Demonstrative Adjective | Describes the position of some one or something | This, that, these, those | -> This book is mine. -> Those hills are high. That chair is comfortable. |
Indefinite Adjective | These tell us ‘how many’ or ‘how much’ of something | All, any, several, both, another | -> All the students are present in class. -> Both sisters are intelligent. -> I bought several grocery items from the store. |
Interrogative adjective | These tell us ‘how many’ or ‘how much’ of something | All, any, several, both, another | -> All the students are present in class. -> Both sisters are intelligent. -> I bought several grocery items from the store. |
