A demonstrative adjective is a type of adjective that points to a noun or a pronounced word in the sentence.

It serves to reflect or show the position or sight of a thing. The word “this”, “these” and “that” are all examples for such demonstrative adjectives.

Usually, demonstrative adjectives are in the same case as their respective nouns. Also, there are two types of demonstrative adjectives: single and plural.

Use demonstrative adjectives to point out specific nouns within a group. A demonstrative adjective can come before the noun or after it, although placement depends on whether the adjective is being used as a demonstrative determiner, which is placed right in front of the noun, or a demonstrative pronoun, which replaces the noun.

The same words are used as demonstrative pronouns when these words refer to things, people or animals. For example, “This is a comprehensive book.”.
