Essay About Climate Change (What are causes and what we can do to avoid it?)
The world is changing. We can see it every day, and we know that something is happening. It’s not just the unusually hot days or heavy rains, but also bigger changes like rising sea levels and melting ice caps. And people are noticing: more than three out of four Americans believe in climate change (and even more people around the world do).
Introduction
Climate change is one of the most important issues facing our planet. It has caused the earth to warm at an unprecedented rate and has impacted the lives of all living creatures on this planet. Climate change is caused by humans, but we can stop it by working together and reducing our greenhouse gas emissions.
The question is: what can we do about it? Climate change is a global issue, but how does it affect each one of us? How will our actions today affect our future generations?
We’ll discuss some important points in this essay.
What is climate change?
Climate change is the long-term shift in the weather caused by humans. It can be both good and bad for people, depending on the changes that occur. For example, if there’s a drought and people have to find new sources of water, this might be good for them because it teaches them how to adapt to their environment. On the other hand, if there’s an increase in global flooding due to melting ice caps and glaciers then this could be bad for people because they may lose their homes or die from drowning.
The cause of climate change is generally thought to be carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) from fossil fuels like oil and coal when they’re burned at power plants or factories which release these gases into the air; these gases then trap more heat than CO2 would normally do alone so they create more warming even though we need some extra warmth here on our planet too!
Causes of climate change
According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the main causes of climate change include greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide. Some others include fluorinated gases, halocarbons and black carbon (soot). Lastly, sulphate aerosols have also been found to be responsible for global warming.
In today’s world, there are many factors contributing towards climate change. These factors include:
- deforestation;
- industrialization;
- urbanization;
- transportation;
- use of fossil fuels like coal and oil products in energy production etcetera.
Impacts of climate change
Climate change is already affecting the planet
As you can see from the above list, climate change is impacting our health, water supply, food supply and economy as well as our environment and ice caps.
When we talk about climate change in this essay, we mean changes in global average temperature that have been caused by human activities. This can include burning fossil fuels such as coal or gas to produce electricity; burning biomass (wood); cutting down forests for agricultural land; or driving cars that produce carbon dioxide.
What you can do to help?
Climate change is a global problem with local solutions, and each of us can do our part to reduce our carbon footprint. Here are some simple actions that you can take to help:
- Reduce your energy use through energy efficient products.
- Use public transport instead of driving your car or taking a taxi.
- Switch off appliances when not in use, such as the TV and computer at night (or on weekends)
- Use renewable energy sources where possible, for example by buying green power from your electricity supplier.
- Plant trees: Trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and help to fight climate change.
- Protect natural areas: Preserving forests, wetlands, and other natural areas helps to keep carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere.
- Spread the word: Talk to your friends and family about climate change and what we can do to stop it.
Humans are the main cause of climate change
Climate change is happening and humans are at fault. You can help prevent climate change by working together to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
As an individual, you can help reduce your carbon footprint by using public transportation or biking instead of driving; choosing products that use less packaging; and eating less meat, which produces a lot of greenhouse gases.
Affected Zones
According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, 35 out of 44 climate zones have already been affected by climate change.
The IPCC also says that since 1850, global sea levels have risen by 19 centimeters and are expected to rise by 26-82 centimeters by 2100 if temperatures continue to increase at their current rate. Both of these changes will affect coastal areas the most.
In addition, new diseases are being introduced into countries where they haven’t existed before due to warmer weather conditions and increased travel.
Conclusion
In conclusion, climate change is a serious threat that we must work together to address. There are many ways you can help by reducing your carbon footprint and encouraging others to do the same. We can all take action today to make tomorrow better for ourselves and our planet.
